the photo sucks, I'll post a better one later but I could not wait!!When I started tying it was not too long at all before I leapt full force into deer hair and the mess that it entails. I got so far as to assay an attempt at commercial tying of them for a shop up in Maine. That turned out badly, left me with a bad taste in my mouth for the deer hair and a big box of #4 hooks and deer hide.
Recently, for some reason, I have been returning to the area. Today I tried my hand at it and turned out what I feel is the best Muddler I've ever tied/spun/trimmed.
My feel for the hair under the thread is remarkably light and accurate. There is more direct communication with what's going on with the hair and the thread and the hook and with me.
I believe I'll knock out a few more and take them fishing.
(Truthfully, there are easier ways to tie flies than with deer hair but, I feel, none with the same sense of accomplishment and aesthetic)
