I was there to learn and learn I did. First person I sat down with was Marc Pinsel. A Red Stick Fly Fisher. He was slated to tie wool head flies and that is just what he did. I came away enriched and educated. Later on he gave a talk on fly design and the effects of hydrodynamic shear in streamer patterns. But more on that later. Spinning and stacking wool had not turned out as well as I'd have liked when I gave it a go recently. I promised myself that I'd watch Marc to get the bugs worked out of my tying. Below are some photos of his work at various stages:

For those events where folks are a bit more stuffy than Red River Fly Fishers, Marc convened this organization some while back:

Can't really call her a child prodigy any longer. Taylor is one of the best casters you'll see anywhere. Her goal is to become a certified FFF instructor caster. Not too often that one hears a daughter saying, "dad, slow your cast down" I guess Rex was embarrassing her with his casting.

ROD PR0N - I didn't even get them all in the frame! More were to the left. TFO display and casting demo. They have a one weight now. Lefty Special. In the bright blue bag, leftmost. It's the tiny sweetie in the right-most sleeve. (Homer drools)

This gentleman made it possible for Red River Fly Fishers to put on their wonderful show. Paul Kisel is Eisenhower Park superintendent and just a nice fellow. TPWD and the outdoors folk of Texas are fortunate to have him on the job.

I learned a lot, got to help some folks out a little bit and had fun. My casting took another bump up as well. That can't be helped whenever Al Crise and Steve Hollensed are in the area. I had always been putting a little push in at the end of my final delivery cast that was putting in a nasty tailing loop. Thanks fellers for the help, vicarious though it was on my part.
The gulls were working over the water near EYC. I tried my hand at some sinking line Cat's Whisker angling but to no avail. I was through for day anyway since the fish and I were not playing the same game. I watched a mariner motoring out onto the deep of Texoma. What a place, what a day.
